The Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics was initiated in the year 2014 with a degree program of BS and the first M.Phil batch was started in the year 2016. The Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics contributes to teaching and research of future crop production in terms of evaluating germ plasms and new cultivars against biotic and abiotic stresses. The researchers at this department also do research on plant and microbial biodiversity, inheritance of specific traits, mapping genetic variation of various plant traits, and developing new crop germplasm for further use in crop breeding. Currently, our researchers are working on the evaluation of wheat lines from International Center for Wheat and Maize Research (CIMMYT), chili pepper and tomato lines from the World Vegetable Center (AVRDC). The department also has external research funding from NRPU program of Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Grant in Aid Fund for Research Studies, Government of Balochistan.
